Alban’s artistic inspiration gets as far as his childhood. Brought up near airports and oilrigs in Africa, he spent most of his time customising toys which he always found too perfect, too pristine, not realistic enough. Kerosene stains on petrol tanks and burn marks on engines as add-ons would indeed give them some kind of authenticity. From these early years Alban has widely developed a fascination for industrial machineries and consider them as real pieces of art telling incredible stories - they are the fossils of our modern world.

 

As an art school student Alban has broaden his skills and articulate his own artistic style which would be based on fantasy objects. Through his art Alban wants to reveal something about an unreal past digging into historical imagery as well as into our collective memory filled of invented images. Imagery of 1940s planes is for instance a great source of inspiration that conveys strong emotion of adventure. His point is nevertheless nor to suggest anything aesthetic about war in itself neither to simply recycle real objects but to add a fun side to the world we live in. He transforms the original aspect of an object adding painted characters, signs, and logos or simply changing scale. In doing so Alban feels a strong connection with Pop Art bringing yet his very own interpretation where his art is not about distorting the real but enhancing the plausible. 

 

Alban (b.1967) lives and works in Paris. He is graduated from Ecole des Gobelins in Paris. He started his career as a set designer for the animated movies industry. Alban is presented by several art galleries in Europe and in the UK with >french art studio since 2006.
